Last week came the announcement of the Pantone Color of the Year for 2018. That color is “Ultra-Violet 18-3838” and it certainly represents a radical departure from last years “Greenery”. As indicated by the image at the top of this post, via Pantone, the quasi-cosmic feel is hard to miss.

In making the announcement, the renowned international color company said: “The Pantone Color of the Year has come to mean so much more than ‘what’s trending’ in the world of design; it’s truly a reflection of what’s needed in our world today”. This came from Laurie Pressman, the Vice President of the Pantone Color Institute, and certainly tends to add a globalist feel to the color.

Pantone also contributed an interesting take on the color purple, in general, when they said, “Enigmatic purples have also long been symbolic of counterculture, unconventionality, and artistic brilliance. Musical icons Prince, David Bowie, and Jimi Hendrix brought shades of UltraViolet to the forefront of western pop culture as personal expressions of individuality. Nuanced and full of emotion, the depth of PANTONE 18-3838 Ultra Violet symbolizes experimentation and non-conformity, spurring individuals to imagine their unique mark on the world, and push boundaries through creative outlets”. Any sentence that includes Prince, David Bowie, and Jimi Hendrix will always work for me.

A tile, stone, glass  & terracotta brand like Country Floors, as a purveyor of an iconic selection of hard, permanent surfaces, does it’s best work by seeking to pair colors like Ultra-Violet with their durable longer life cycle product categories. They have many convenient locations and plenty of design professionals to help you. Thanks for reading!
